To maintain the GRI Certified Sustainability Professional designation, individuals must earn a minimum of 4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually, obtained only through GRI Academy–approved courses. The GRI Academy assigns CEUs and sets official pricing per course.

Participants seeking certification renewal must still enroll separately in GRI Academy courses to meet CEU requirements.

Reinstatement of GRI Professional Certification (Including Cost Implications)

If an individual fails to complete the minimum CEUs before certification expiry, the following reinstatement rules apply:

Within 3 months of certification expiry (if the prospects fall here, they will do CUEs in the GRI academy and pay the reinstatement fee):

  • Complete the missing CEUs.
  • Pay a €100 reinstatement fee.

Within 6 months of certification expiry ($500 training fee for all the four new modules then pay 250 euros for the exam). In addition, one must:

  • Complete the missing CEUs.

  • Retake and pass the GRI Professional Certification Exam (exam fee applies).

Failure to reinstate within six months requires the individual to re-enter the certification process in full.
