6 tips to prepare for KASNEB exams in Kenya

KASNEB examinations are just around the corner. Are you sitting for the April exam? Do you have too much to read and very less time? Pressure and stress taking toll?

Preparing for exams can be stressful especially when a candidate has a lot to cover but within a restricted time period. As the exam date gets closer, a lot of stress and anxiety sets in.  While few people with proper study plan prepare faster and better, many end up covering less and stress a lot about the exam results.

Here are seven KASNEB exam preparation tips that will come in handy for any student preparing for the April sitting and any other KASNEB exam sitting.

1. Make use of past papers

Revision is more than just going over notes and memorising facts. You can prepare for your KASNEB exams by answering past exam questions using past papers as this will give you a better chance of passing.

Using past papers is advantageous in that:

  1. You find whether you have learnt enough to tackle the exam questions
  2. You identify your weak areas
  3. You learn how exam questions are answered

After you have completed a past paper, compare your answers against the marking scheme.  Traction School of Governance and Business provides its students with past papers to increase their chances of passing upcoming exams.

2. Create enough time to study

Do not wait until the last minute. Although some students thrive on last-minute cramming, it is not the best way to approach an exam. To help manage your time effectively, set up a timetable to assist you study. Note down the number of papers you have and the days on which you will sit for them. Based on that, organize your time effectively. Some papers may require more study time than others, so create a balance that you are more comfortable with.

3. Join block/crash revision classes/programs

This is one of the most effective ways to prepare for your exams. Traction School of Governance and Business understands that students often have a hard time revising exams on their own and self-confidently tackle the papers. This is why the school schedules block releases for KASNEB students.

What is a block release?

This where students preparing for their KASNEB exams come and revise with us to increase their pass rate and confidently tackle exams.

Crash revision programs enables candidates to fill their blind spots and ensure that they do well in their exams. The program ensures that candidates get used to the questions format and is a good practice for ensuring that they spend the right amount of time on each section.

4. Do not stop at just “getting the idea”

Often times, students get shocked when they find out the failed their papers even when they thought they understood the topics. The reason for this is that they never practiced the knowledge gained. It is important to constantly practice what you learn in class to get the main ideas.

5. Plan your exam day

Candidates should ensure they get everything ready in advance for the examination. Ensure that you do not leave to the day or to your examination centres before to suddenly realize you do not know the location, or what you are supposed to bring with you. Ensure that you go through all the rules and requirements, and plan your time, route, and journey time.

Check all the rules and requirements such as calculators, pens, pencils, examination permit (timetable), and KASNEB registration numbers among others and plan your route and journey time.  Arrive at your respective exam centres at least 30 minutes earlier before the examination time.

6. Final Tip! Stay Hydrated!

Remember that hydration is essential for your brain to work at its best. Ensure that you drink enough water throughout your revision time and during the exam day as well.

Good luck preparing for your KASNEB exams!
